Yamaha plans to stop selling the top-end R15 M variant from its lineup, according to dealer sources. The company has not yet given any official confirmation about this decision. Right now, prices for the R15 start at Rs 1.76 lakh and go up to Rs 2.02 lakh ex-showroom in Maharashtra.

Pricing Shift

Removing the R15 M variant will widen the price gap between the R15 and the newly launched R2 motorcycle model. Previously, the top-tier R15 M cost only Rs 39,000 less than the base R2 model. Dropping the M variant increases that price gap to Rs 60,000.

Model Details

Spending that extra Rs 60,000 to buy the R2 gives riders 49cc more in engine size, dual overhead camshafts, 8.1 horsepower more, 4.9 Nm of extra peak torque, a TFT screen display, and a fresh look. Meanwhile, dealerships are still taking bookings for the R15 M using up their remaining stock. In addition, select color choices for the base R15 model now include a quickshifter as a standard feature instead of an optional extra.

Context

Automobile companies often adjust their product lineups and pricing to make sure different models appeal clearly to distinct buyers. Clear price gaps help prevent models within the same brand from competing against each other in the market.
