Brazilian Football Star Maicon Headed to Kolkata for Youth Initiative

Brazilian football great Douglas Maicon will visit Kolkata on November 13 and 14 for a grassroots development programme. The 45-year-old former defender will serve as the global brand ambassador for King Sports Management during his two-day trip.

Events and Talent Hunt

Maicon will arrive in the city on November 13 and attend several events at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre the next day. He will also interact with children during a talent identification programme aimed at spotting young Indian players.

Background and Career

During his playing career, Maicon earned 76 caps for Brazil from 2003 to 2014 and played in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. He was also a vital part of Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan squad that won the treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League in the 2009-10 season.

Context

Grassroots football programmes in India often bring in international stars to help build better scouting systems and give young players global exposure. Visits by former World Cup players tend to draw significant attention to local academies and youth training camps.
