A cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal has changed weather conditions across Madhya Pradesh, bringing rain to cities like Satna and Katni while dropping temperatures in Dhar and Ratlam. Khajuraho saw clouds, cold winds, and light rain by evening, while Anuppur experienced dark clouds, cool breezes, and light drizzle. The meteorological department predicts heavy rain in six districts and light rain or drizzle in 23 districts.
Temperature Changes
Dhar recorded a sharp temperature drop as the minimum fell from 15.4 degrees on Tuesday to 11.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning, marking a 4.2-degree fall in a single day after a maximum of 32.9 degrees the previous day. Jhabua saw its minimum temperature drop from 17.6 degrees on October 27 to 14.4 degrees on October 28, bringing a cold morning followed by a warm afternoon reaching up to 36 degrees.
Crop Risks
The weather system threatens standing paddy crops in eastern regions like the Jabalpur division, including Balaghat and Chhindwara, alongside wheat sowing activities in the Rewa division. Other major kharif crops grown across the Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, and Shahdol divisions include soybean, maize, urad, arhar, sesame, and coarse grains.
Context
Although the southwest monsoon officially withdrew from the state on October 3, active weather systems continue to cause unseasonal rain and temperature shifts. The state recorded an overall 4 percent deficit in monsoon rainfall from June to September, receiving 908.4 millimeters against the normal 949.5 millimeters.
