Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has posted an 18 percent increase in its consolidated net profit for the September quarter. The company earned a revenue of 11,340.4 crore rupees over the period, which marks a 24 percent rise compared to the same time last year. This financial growth came directly from a sharp increase in cargo volumes handled by the firm. Driven by strong business inside the country and good progress in international markets, the company has raised its revenue and capital expenditure targets for the financial year.
Context
Private port operators in India earn most of their income by moving cargo for various industries and businesses. When domestic manufacturing and global trade do well, cargo volumes go up and help port companies earn more money. Publicly listed firms update their financial targets during the year when their actual performance beats earlier estimates.
