Anti-corruption officials searched twenty-five places across Tamil Nadu on Thursday, including the home of former minister K.N. Nehru in Tiruchi. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption launched the morning raids linked to a cash-for-jobs investigation. A team led by a deputy superintendent of police started the search at his Thillai Nagar home around seven o'clock while the former minister was present.

Background

This follows a recent Madras High Court order allowing the agency to proceed with the inquiry. The investigation stems from a complaint by the Enforcement Directorate regarding irregularities in hiring thousands of technical staff for the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department between twenty-twenty-one and twenty-twenty-five. The agency previously searched properties tied to the politician in September.

Political Reaction

DMK president M.K. Stalin accused the current administration of political vendetta and staging raids for publicity during a byelection. He claimed the government is trying to distract people from safety concerns and inflation, adding that his party members will not be intimidated by police action.
