UPDATE - follow-up to Company Commander among four killed as CISF jawan opens fire in J&K: An argument over bringing a child to a project site led head constable Avdesh Kumar Singh to allegedly open fire with an AK-47, killing an assistant commandant and three other personnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Tuesday.
The Incident
The shooting happened at around 6:40 pm at the Sewa Hydel-II power project in Mashka village, located in Basohli. The accused and his wife both work in the Central Industrial Security Force. Police stated that the argument started because the couple brought their toddler to the site during shift changes, which went against instructions. A complaint was made to the company commander, triggering the altercation.
Casualties And Arrest
The victims include Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, sub-inspector Lakshman Singh, and constables Sanjeev Kumar and Mohd Rafiq. The shooter used his issued AK-47 rifle carrying 150 rounds of ammunition and was arrested after the incident. Because the remote site is reached through Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district, the injured personnel were taken to a nearby NHPC hospital in the neighbouring state, where they died.
Context
Security force camps and vital installations enforce strict access rules and duty protocols for personnel and families. Workplace stress and personal grievances in armed units are matters that authorities handle through internal oversight and counseling systems.
