UPDATE - follow-up to Yamaha R15 M variant to be discontinued: dealer sources report that Yamaha could discontinue the range-topping R15 M variant to streamline its fully faired motorcycle lineup, though the company has not yet issued an official confirmation.
Pricing And Performance
Removing the top-tier 155cc model aims to create a wider price gap between the regular R15 and the newly launched R2, which offers 49cc more in displacement, dual overhead camshafts, 8.1 horsepower more power, 4.9 Nm more peak torque, a TFT instrument cluster, and updated styling. Dealer pricing lists the R15 from Rs 1.76 lakh up to Rs 2.02 lakh in Maharashtra, meaning the fully loaded M variant sits only Rs 39,000 below the base R2, while Rushlane reports other price brackets including the R15 S at Rs 1.59 lakh and the R2 up to Rs 2.40 lakh. Dropping the M version widens this gap to roughly Rs 51,000 to Rs 60,000, helping buyers make a clearer distinction between models. Meanwhile, Rushlane notes that R15 sales dipped 26.79 percent in August 2026 to 7,691 units compared to July, hitting a six-month low.
Availability And Accessories
Bookings for the R15 M remain open for limited stock currently available at dealerships. Alongside these portfolio changes, the quickshifter is likely to be offered as an accessory for the base R15.
Context
Motorcycle manufacturers frequently adjust their model lineups and pricing tiers when introducing a new higher-capacity bike that overlaps with existing premium variants. Clear gaps in price and performance help prevent internal competition between different models in the same showroom.
