Amla juice is a popular health drink, but the way and time you consume it matter for your daily routine. Dr Avantika Soni, an Ayurvedic consultant at Cura Ayurvedic and Unani Limited, shared tips on consuming amla juice for beginners. Dr Avantika highlighted that amla is one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C. Vitamin C is water soluble and the body does not store it in a meaningful quantity. Whatever the body does not use is excreted. A large dose once a week does very little, while a modest amount taken regularly is more useful. Consistency matters more than quantity, and any routine you cannot keep up for three months is the wrong routine. In Ayurveda, amla is unusual because it is considered suitable across constitutions, which is why it appears in both Triphala and Chyawanprash. According to Dr Avantika, early morning before food is the conventional advice and correct for most people. Absorption is unhindered, and attaching it to the start of the day helps make it a habit. However, amla is intensely sour, and on a genuinely empty stomach a minority of people experience acidity, a burning sensation, or nausea. Dr Avantika notes that most people quietly give up at this point, but often the amla suits them and only the timing was wrong. If that happens, take it 20 to 30 minutes after a light breakfast instead.
Consumption Tips And Precautions
Dr Avantika suggests avoiding amla juice at night, particularly if you are prone to acid reflux, because taking sour food late and lying down soon after is unhelpful. She advises diluting 20 to 30 ml of amla juice in roughly half a glass of water. Do not use hot water, as concentrated amla juice is acidic enough to be worth respecting. Undiluted amla juice sits unpleasantly, and over months, repeated acid exposure harms tooth enamel. Rinse your mouth with plain water afterwards and do not brush immediately after. Dr Avantika is an Ayurvedic physician and a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery graduate from SGT University, with interests in preventive healthcare, digestive wellness, lifestyle medicine, and women's health.
Context
Ayurveda relies heavily on natural herbs and dietary practices that emphasize regular, long-term habits over quick fixes. Amla has a long history of use in traditional Indian wellness systems for its high nutrient content and versatility across different body types.
