The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Telangana by three weeks to November 30. The panel announced the change late on Thursday, moving the final voter list publication date from November 9 to November 30.
Timeline Changes
Under the updated schedule, the period for issuing notices and handling claims and objections now runs until November 26 instead of the earlier November 5 cutoff. The poll panel made this adjustment after Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy wrote a letter requesting the extension on October 29. The Election Commission also applied similar deadline extensions for filing claims and objections and publishing final rolls across several other states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Nagaland.
Context
Electoral roll revisions are routine administrative exercises conducted by election authorities to update voter registries, add new eligible citizens, and remove outdated entries. State election offices manage these intensive revisions locally before finalizing voter lists ahead of upcoming democratic polls.
