Road repair work on the main access route to Vizianagaram’s Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport started Friday evening after sections collapsed due to Cyclone Arnab. The road, known as the trumpet inter‑exchange, is the key link for passengers and many VIPs traveling to the new airport. Travelers had raised safety concerns and asked GMR airport authorities to act quickly. Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy warned GMR executives about the damage and asked them to investigate why the road gave way only three months after the airport’s inauguration. Under pressure from the collector and the state government, the contractors began temporary repairs on a war‑footing basis and said the road would be relaid soon.
Context
Coastal Andhra Pradesh often faces strong cyclones that can damage roads and other infrastructure. Quick restoration of airport access roads is crucial to keep air travel safe and maintain connectivity for the region.
