A six-year-old girl is in critical condition at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh following an alleged assault by an eight-year-old boy inside a school in Panchkula on October 28, 2026.

The Incident

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the third-grade boy grabbing the girl by her hair and repeatedly hitting her head against a desk inside a classroom. The family alleged that the boy lured the victim to the first floor by saying her father had called for her, and that she was attacked with a stone and a flower pot before being dragged and left unconscious. According to the police, the boy also kicked her and struck her with an object resembling a brick.

Investigation And Medical Status

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrinder Singh confirmed the ages of the children involved and stated that the boy is undergoing a medical assessment. Such an evaluation is conducted for children aged between seven and 12 years before further action is taken. The injured girl was initially taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 before being referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh due to the severity of her injuries, where she remains under treatment.

Family Reaction

The victim's family has raised serious concerns about school security and CCTV monitoring, pointing out that the cameras are watched from the principal's office. The girl's uncle stated that they were searching for the child when the same boy accused of the attack actually led them to where she lay injured. He questioned how staff draw salaries yet fail to protect students properly, warning that parents will hesitate to send children to school if such lapses occur.

Context

School safety and student supervision have come under intense scrutiny following incidents of violence on educational campuses. When minor children are involved in severe conflicts, legal and law enforcement procedures require careful medical and psychological evaluations rather than standard criminal prosecution. Educational institutions face mounting pressure from parents and authorities to ensure proper monitoring and active supervision on school premises.
