UPDATE - follow-up to Traffic curbs in Delhi for INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 | LIVE: The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance is holding a public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar following a rain delay, alongside a march to Ramlila Maidan to protest alleged vote theft through the special intensive revision of electoral rolls and demand his resignation.

Preparations and Protests

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused the Home Minister of trying to block people from reaching the capital for the event, a claim rejected as false by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Haryana Congress leaders held strategy meetings in Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat, while CPI(M) MP John Brittas and Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra claimed that ten lakh people would attend the rally.

Reactions and Objections

CPI leader D. Raja stated the protest sends a message to Prime Minister Modi, and JMM MP Mahua Maji noted civil society members and voters whose names were deleted would participate. Meanwhile, Vishva Hindu Parishad national spokesperson Vinod Bansal criticized the timing of the rally during Diwali festivities and noted pleas from traders and Hindu society to cancel or postpone the event were ignored.

Context

The special intensive revision of electoral rolls is a detailed administrative process managed by the Election Commission to update voter databases, which periodically draws political debate over transparency and deletions.
