Pacer Prasidh Krishna will miss the third and final ODI against West Indies due to a left hamstring injury he picked up during the second match in Guwahati. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced that Anshul Kamboj will take his place in the team. Selectors also removed Washington Sundar from the T20 international squad for the five-match series that begins on October 6.

Squad Changes

Sundar was pulled from the T20 side so he can play red-ball cricket for his state team in the Ranji Trophy starting October 11, helping him prepare for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Naman Dhir will step in to replace Sundar in the T20 squad. Meanwhile, Prasidh got hurt while bowling just five overs in the second ODI on Wednesday, where he gave away 45 runs and took one wicket as West Indies scored a high total of 405 runs for seven wickets. India still won the match by chasing down the target in 43.3 overs with eight wickets left to spare, setting a record for their highest run chase in ODI history and grabbing a 2-0 lead in the series.

Replacements and Match Details

Anshul Kamboj joins the squad after playing a four-day match for India A against Australia A in Puducherry, where he took three wickets in the first innings. India's updated ODI squad features players like Shubman Gill as captain, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. The updated T20I squad is led by captain Shreyas Iyer and includes names like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma.

Context

Cricket teams frequently manage player workloads and injuries by bringing in fresh talent from domestic fixtures and India A games. National selectors often balance short-format international series with upcoming red-ball domestic tournaments to keep players ready for multi-format international tours.
