Harley-Davidson has officially unveiled the Sprint 440, a small-capacity cruiser built in partnership with Hero MotoCorp. The motorcycle will make its public appearance at the EICMA 2026 event in Milan, followed by a spring 2027 release in the United States where final assembly will happen in York, Pennsylvania. While the bike was developed alongside Hero, an official launch date and price for India are not yet announced, though experts expect a price around Rs 3.5 lakh. The company is also currently working on the X350T model specifically for India.
Design And Engine
The Sprint 440 features a classic cruiser style that stands apart from the X440 roadster. Its build includes a teardrop fuel tank, round headlight, low scooped seat, and high pull-back handlebars, along with a shortened rear fender and low-slung exhaust. Buyers can choose from three international color options named Dark Billiard Grey, Vivid Black, and Teal Thunder. Power comes from a 440cc single-cylinder engine with air and oil cooling, generating 26.7 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The motor links to a six-speed transmission and an assist-and-slipper clutch, designed to deliver steady pulling power at low speeds rather than high-speed thrills. The bike has a 9-litre fuel tank, which is smaller than the 13.5-litre tank on the Indian-spec X440, and delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of about 34 kmpl.
Comfort And Hardware
A key highlight is the low laden seat height of 671 mm, paired with a narrow seat and tank area to help riders easily reach the ground. Optional Reach and Tallboy seats give extra comfort choices. Suspension duties are handled by 43 mm upside-down front forks with 130 mm of travel and twin rear shock absorbers featuring seven-step preload adjustment, giving the machine a ground clearance of 147 mm. It rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cast alloy wheels wearing 100/90 front and 150/60 rear tyres. Stopping power comes from a 320 mm front disc brake and a 240 mm rear disc brake equipped with ABS. Extra features include a round 3.5-inch color TFT display, full-LED lights, and a USB-C charging port placed above the headlight, plus optional accessories like a detachable windscreen, saddlebags, and passenger backrests.
Context
Partnering with local manufacturers allows global motorcycle brands to tap into fast-growing Asian markets while sharing production costs. Small-displacement cruisers combine traditional styling with accessible power and lower price points to attract younger or newer riders into the brand family. This release highlights how traditional American motorcycle makers are adapting their product lines for international riders who prefer lighter, more manageable machines.
