The upcoming war film Maatrubhumi starring Salman Khan has received clearance from the Indian government for a theatrical release after facing delays due to content concerns.

Ministry Clearance

Originally announced as Battle Of Galwan, the movie was renamed Maatrubhumi earlier this year. The Ministry of Defence previously had reservations about the film's content and its mention of China because of the 2020 conflict between the two countries. However, officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are now satisfied with a newly submitted version of the film and issued a No Objection Certificate last week. The revised version has been heavily altered and portrays India and China relations in a positive light.

Release Plans

Salman Khan is eyeing November 13 for the theatrical release, believing the post-Diwali period will be good for audiences in a celebratory mood. The film still needs clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification, which the makers will submit soon. If the CBFC completes the process this month, the team plans to bring the movie to cinemas on November 13, with a clearer picture expected in the next 10 days. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film also stars Chitrangda Singh.

Context

Films dealing with sensitive geopolitical themes or real-world military conflicts often undergo careful review by government departments in India before receiving public release approval. The Central Board of Film Certification operates separately as the final body to rate and clear films for public viewing in cinemas across the country.
