Actor Raju Kher has spoken about the short-lived first marriage of his elder brother, Anupam Kher, to actress Madhumalti Kapoor, which ended within days. Speaking in an interview, Raju shared that the couple had been in a relationship for two to three years before Madhumalti suggested getting married while in Lucknow. They tied the knot at a temple in the city, but Anupam left just a day or two later after realizing he could not continue the relationship. At the time of the wedding, Anupam had not yet entered the Hindi film industry, and no family members were present, meaning the family did not initially realize the marriage had even taken place. Raju chose not to probe into the exact reasons behind the separation, noting that Anupam was simple for that time while Madhu ji was a somewhat strong woman. Following their separation, Madhumalti married writer-director Ranjit Kapoor, with whom she had children, and continued working in films and television. Anupam later moved to Mumbai, making his screen debut in the 1984 film Saaransh directed by Mahesh Bhatt. He subsequently married actress Kirron Kher on August 26, 1985, after knowing her since their days at the Department of Indian Theatre in Chandigarh. Kirron had previously been married to businessman Gautam Berry and has a son, actor Sikandar Kher. Raju maintains a warm relationship with Kirron, stating he has always regarded her as a mother figure.
