Filmmaker and producer Siddharth P Malhotra has confirmed that both his recent hit projects on Netflix, the film Ikka and the web show Shaque: Trust No One, will get second parts following strong public responses.

Sequel Details

Malhotra stated that work is already underway on Ikka 2 and Shaque Season 2. While Ikka 2 will continue, Shaque Season 2 will feature an entirely new story rather than continuing the previous plot. Director Rensil D'Silva originally conceived Shaque as a feature film about eight to nine years ago before the team decided to turn it into a series and pitched it to Netflix.

Response And Production

Shaque has stayed at the number one spot after one week and ranks in the top ten in twenty to thirty countries. Malhotra noted that he has received more calls for this series than at any other point in his career. The show is a whodunit where the culprit is revealed at the end, and Malhotra admitted that while social media users might spoil the climax, strong viewership even after spoilers is a victory for the writing team. Lead actor Parineeti Chopra learned she was pregnant after shooting began, prompting makers to keep her at the filming location to avoid travel. Malhotra credited both himself and Sapna Malhotra with taking care of her during production.

Career And Collaborations

Malhotra's past directorial credits include We Are Family in 2010, Hichki in 2018, Tribhanga in 2021, Maharaj in 2024, and Ikka in 2026. He stated that his varied choices are driven by finding relatable human relationships rather than avoiding genres. He also praised his long-standing collaboration with Netflix and Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content, noting the hard work of the entire streaming team.

Context

Web series and films often receive follow-up seasons or sequels on streaming platforms when initial viewing numbers break viewership records and enter global top-ten lists. Creators frequently transition ideas between feature films and episodic series during early development phases depending on how the narrative potential unfolds.
