Actor Ravie Dubey is set to play the role of Lakshmana in the upcoming film series Ramayana, which is built on a budget of Rs 4,000 crore and stars Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. This marks a massive career high for an actor whose net worth is now reported at Rs 150 crore alongside his wife Sargun Mehta, a stark contrast to his early days in Mumbai when he struggled to afford food.

The Early Struggle

Ravie arrived in Mumbai in 2001 to study engineering after his father chose a local college to help him pursue his dreams. He struggled academically, failing multiple papers across his first two semesters, which led him to return home to Gurugram. Burdened by heavy failure and feeling that he had no path forward, he faced severe mental health challenges during this vulnerable phase. By his third year of college, he started auditioning for ads, eventually landing his debut bike advertisement directed by Shoojit Sircar in 2005 for Rs 10,000. He decided to stop taking money from his parents after that first pay cheque, relying on food brought over by supportive friends during tough financial stretches.

Rise in Television

His fortunes turned in 2006 when he secured a lead role in the Doordarshan show Stree Yeh Teri Kahani, produced by Dilip Kumar and Saira Bano, which was shot at Dilip Kumar's house. In 2009, he met Sargun Mehta on the set of the show 12/24 Karol Bagh, whom he later married in 2013 and credits for transforming his life. After gaining major success with Saas Bina Sasural in 2010 and Jamai Raja in 2014, he appeared on and hosted several reality shows. In 2016, Ravie and Sargun launched their production company Dreamiyata Entertainment Pvt Ltd, producing television shows, digital YouTube series like Udaariyaan and Tu Juliet Jatt Di, and Punjabi films including Saunkan Saunkane and its sequel.

Context

Transitioning from television serials to massive multi-crore cinematic projects represents a major career shift for actors in the Indian entertainment industry. Major mythological adaptations often feature ensemble casts and extensive production budgets, drawing significant public attention upon release. For actors with long television careers, landing prominent roles in such high-budget cinematic universes marks a transition into mainstream film stardom.
