Producer Namit Malhotra hints Ramayana may become a trilogy after audience reviews
Reported by Arjun Sethi (Fact-Checker) · Bollywood Hungama ·
Producer Namit Malhotra says the upcoming mythological movie Ramayana could still become a three-part series based on audience reactions. Speaking at a media event in Los Angeles, Malhotra explained that the team originally planned a trilogy before shifting to a two-film format. He noted that creators might return to the drawing board to add or remove parts after seeing how viewers receive the release.
Movie Versions
The team currently holds two separate edits of the first film with different runtimes. Creators are testing viewer feedback to decide if a single global version works best or if an extended cut similar to The Lord of the Rings is an option. Director Nitesh Tiwari and the producer both prefer sticking to one version for audiences everywhere.
Cast And Crew
Ramayana: Part 1 carries the subtitle Rise of a Legend and hits theaters worldwide on November 5, 2026, in standard and IMAX formats. Nitesh Tiwari directs the project, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Prime Focus Studios produces the movie alongside DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, featuring music composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court has granted anti-piracy protection to the film ahead of its launch.
Context
Big-budget Indian films increasingly use global premieres and test screenings to gauge audience reactions before finalizing theatrical cuts. Multi-part mythological adaptations require careful planning around visual effects and pacing to satisfy diverse global markets.
