Actor Janhvi Kapoor has released a public statement condemning the criminal misuse of artificial intelligence after a morphed video from her 2024 film Devara circulated online. The AI-generated clip altered her appearance from the popular song Chuttamalle to show her in a sexually explicit way.

The Statement

Sharing her thoughts on Instagram Stories, Kapoor called the unauthorized creation of fictionalized content deeply violating and akin to sexual assault. She stated that consent and respect for a woman's body remain treated as complicated issues despite being basic human concepts. Kapoor noted that a woman's clothing choices or previous permissions never grant anyone the right to visually exploit her body. She added that the incident points to the larger reality of women constantly negotiating for physical and digital safety.

Support And Context

Kapoor expressed gratitude to her co-star Jr NTR, along with Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda, and Khushbu Sundar, for publicly speaking out against the immoral practice. She highlighted that when public figures with millions of fans take a stand, it makes a meaningful difference for women facing similar behavior. Devara: Part 1, released in September 2024, stars Jr NTR and Kapoor, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and the song Chuttamalle sung by Shilpa Rao.

Context

The rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence has made it easier to create convincing digital fabrications, often called deepfakes, targeting public figures without their permission. This trend has sparked global concern regarding online safety, privacy laws, and the lack of immediate legal protections against digital harassment for women in the public eye.
