Authorities arrested 28-year-old Jacob Morley near Norborne, Missouri, ending a manhunt that lasted more than a week after he escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tennessee. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced his capture on Tuesday following an arrest handled by the Missouri State Highway Patrol alongside multiple partner agencies. Investigators tracked Morley after receiving a tip that he had been hiding in a shed at a hunting camp in Marion, Illinois, where a truck was also stolen.

The Escape and Capture

Morley had been serving a life sentence for murdering his former coworker Cody Birchfield in 2022 when he slipped through a fence in his prison uniform. Correctional officers discovered he was missing on October 25 at around 11:30 p.m. Security footage later showed him stealing a white 2008 Ford F-350 with a Lindamood Planting Company logo. Authorities used Flock cameras to track his movement toward Missouri and recovered three stolen firearms inside the truck during his arrest.

Context

Manhunts for escaped maximum-security prisoners typically involve multi-state cooperation between local police, state troopers, and federal agencies like the U.S. Marshals. Such operations rely heavily on public tips, highway camera technology, and surveillance footage to track stolen vehicles across state lines.
