Power supply restoration works are nearing completion across six central coastal districts following Cyclone Murasu, according to Special Chief Secretary for Energy K. Vijayanand. Teams worked around the clock to fix the damaged power network in Bapatla, Guntur, NTR, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Krishna districts. Officials and field staff from AP-Transco and DISCOMs led the work with help from National and State Disaster Response Forces, along with electricity personnel who traveled from Bengaluru.

Network Recovery

Recovery operations moved quickly across both rural and urban areas despite tough conditions. In the EPDCL zone, 1,001 specialised teams with 11,537 workers fixed all 552 affected substations and restored power to 5,753 villages. In the CPDCL zone, over 230 teams brought work to the final stages in hard-hit mandals like Naguluppalapadu, Kothapatnam, Martur, and Parchuru, turning the power back on for more than three lakh homes and businesses. Fallen poles in ponds and deep water caused some delays, but workers set up quick backup systems.

Context

Severe storms like cyclones routinely damage power infrastructure by knocking down transmission lines and flooding electrical equipment. Repairing these networks quickly is essential to restore drinking water supply, hospitals, and communication lines in affected regions. Authorities regularly urge residents to stay away from fallen power lines and waterlogged equipment during storm recovery to prevent accidents.
