Political commentator Shehzad Poonawalla won the second season of the reality show Rise and Fall on November 6. He took home the trophy and a cash prize of thirty-five lakh rupees, which he plans to give away for flood relief. The show was hosted by former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag. Shehzad finished ahead of other contestants Priyanka Chahar Choudhary and Gautam Gulati in the final race. The show followed a rules-versus-workers format where strategy and tasks decided who held power inside the house. Shehzad entered as a non-entertainment contestant and slowly became one of the main faces of the season.

House Drama And Past Politics

His time on the show saw many fights and shifts in power. A physical fight with fellow contestant Siwet Tomar led to Siwet getting thrown out of the show. Shehzad also had frequent arguments with Swara Bhasker and others, and Sara Gurpal clashed with him over a biased verdict during a task where Sara got injured. Even with these fights, he won the role of Ultimate Ruler multiple times and secured a direct Ticket to Finale. His brother Tehseen Poonawalla also appeared on the show as a panellist. Before doing reality TV, Shehzad worked with the Indian National Congress from 2008 to 2017 and served as secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. He later called the party's 2017 presidential election rigged in favor of Rahul Gandhi. He then joined the Bharatiya Janata Party as a National Spokesperson and managed its Delhi IT and Social Media work, before resigning in August 2026 for financial and personal reasons while still supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.

Context

Reality television shows in India frequently cast public figures from outside the entertainment industry to drive viewer interest through political and social clashes. Contestants in such formatted house shows typically rely on strategic alliances and task victories to survive eliminations and reach the finale. The inclusion of figures with political backgrounds often brings real-world controversies directly into the television format.
