Event Postponed

Actor Salman Khan delayed a planned public appearance for GB Realty that was scheduled for October 8 at the Taj Lands End hotel in Mumbai, choosing to postpone the engagement following the sudden death of veteran actor Nana Patekar. Neither the actor nor the event organisers released a formal statement, and a new date has not been announced yet.

Industry Tributes

Colleagues across the film industry shared their grief, with Shah Rukh Khan penning an Instagram eulogy recalling their work together in films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Shakti: The Power. Shah Rukh shared a still from their 1992 film and recalled how Patekar once advised him not to lose the actor within while chasing hero roles, while also remembering their matches of carrom and his straightforward nature. Khan and Patekar previously shared the screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Khamoshi The Musical, where Patekar played a deaf and mute father alongside Seema Biswas, Manisha Koirala, and Salman Khan.

Funeral and Final Rites

Patekar passed away at the age of 75 in the early hours of October 8 at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, after suffering a cardiac arrest, with his son Malhar Patekar confirming the news. A doctor revealed that the actor messaged a friend at 2:30 AM saying he felt unwell and was brought dead to the hospital. The Maharashtra government arranged a state funeral with full state honours to honor his cinematic legacy and social welfare work through the Naam Foundation. His mortal remains were transported from Goa to Pune for fans, family, and colleagues from Hindi and Marathi cinema to pay their final respects before the last rites at his farmhouse in Donje on Thursday afternoon.

Context

When major figures in the film industry pass away, prominent actors frequently postpone promotional and commercial appearances out of respect for their colleagues and peers. Veteran performers often leave behind decades of cinematic work that spans both commercial Hindi cinema and parallel or regional Marathi films, alongside meaningful contributions to social welfare causes.
