Kengeri police have arrested a repeat offender for allegedly murdering 65‑year‑old Narayanamma near the Pataladamma Temple in Vrushabhavathi Nagar Layout. Narayanamma was found dead on November 3 in front of the temple after leaving her home because of family problems and sleeping outdoors for several days. A local resident reported the body to her son, who arrived and identified her, prompting police to file an unnatural death report. A post‑mortem and further investigation led officers to suspect murder and robbery, and a murder case was registered on Thursday.
Investigation
Police spotted a suspicious man moving around the layout on Friday and detained him. During interrogation he admitted to seeing Narayanamma sleeping alone, approaching her, covering her mouth, assaulting her and stealing the cash she carried along with a gold ring before fleeing. He said the loot was needed to fund his vices. The suspect has a criminal record that includes offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and prior robbery cases at Girinagar and Cottonpet police stations. Further questioning and investigation are ongoing.
Context
The incident highlights the vulnerability of homeless individuals who sleep in public places, and it shows how prior criminal behaviour can lead to violent crimes when financial pressure mounts.
