Mass detentions took place in and around Delhi on Saturday as Cockroach Janta Party members and leaders attempted to march to Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Abhijeet Dipke and his team were detained from their flight after landing in Delhi for the protest.
Warnings Issued
BJP president Nitin Nabin accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, his colleagues in the CJP, and the INDIA bloc of trying to destabilise the country at the behest of foreign powers. Nabin claimed these groups are competing to trigger instability because they have been rejected by voters and cannot accept the nation's progress. He warned that the Government of India will deal strictly with these actions and BJP workers will thwart their schemes.
Funding Allegations
BJP sources claimed the FCRA Bill is a key factor behind the ruling party's foreign hand allegations, alleging that opposition groups fear tougher funding laws. A BJP leader questioned how CJP leaders afford flights across the country, pointing out that Abhijeet Dipke came from the US and Dhruv Rathee is a German citizen, calling it a toolkit assembled abroad.
Context
Accusations of a foreign hand have a long history in Indian politics, with past leaders across administrations blaming external actors for domestic unrest and protests. The current allegations coincide with Elon Musk criticizing satellite communication delays and aiming remarks at industrialist Mukesh Ambani, drawing a public reply from Rahul Gandhi.
