AutomobileVolkswagen Unveils All-Electric ID Tiguan in Europe to Replace ID 4 and ID 5

Volkswagen has unveiled the new ID Tiguan in European markets as a single direct successor to the ID 4 and ID 5, which are being phased out. Pre-sales in several European countries start on 13th October, with prices beginning at EUR 42,695, according to Rushlane. The electric model will be sold globally alongside the combustion-powered Tiguan, which continues to be available with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.

Design And Size

Built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB+ platform, the ID Tiguan adopts a more traditional SUV silhouette using the carmaker's Pure Positive design language, marking a shift from the softer crossover design of its predecessors. It is bigger than the petrol-powered Tiguan in almost every dimension. The front features connected LED headlamps, a closed-off grille, a prominent bumper, and an illuminated VW emblem. The side profile includes squared wheel arches, aero-optimised alloy wheels, body-coloured conventional door handles, and subtle body cladding. At the rear, the vehicle sports a raked windshield, a roof-mounted spoiler, a shark fin antenna, edgy connected tail lamps, an illuminated logo, and a chunky dual-tone bumper with diffuser-style elements.

Cabin And Features

Inside, the cabin features a triple-screen setup with more physical controls than the ID 4, including a 15-inch central touchscreen, a 12-inch passenger display, and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster. A floating centre console allows for extra storage space below, accompanied by dual wireless charging pads up top and a raised seat-level layout. Other cabin highlights include ambient lighting extending to door liners in a dotted pattern, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a 480-watt Harman Kardon audio system. Powered front seats can be specced with memory, ventilation and massage functions, alongside an optionally available panoramic sunroof and vehicle-to-load functionality.

Battery And Performance

Under the skin, buyers can choose between 58kWh LFP and 77kWh NMC battery options, with the larger battery delivering a WLTP range of up to 600km. Both battery options are paired with a rear motor as standard, while the larger battery can also be had with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Power output stands at 190hp for the 58kWh battery and up to 299hp for the 77kWh unit. Boot space reaches up to 534 litres, and is complemented by a 32-litre frunk. Equipment lists vary across trim levels, which include Trend, Life, Style and R-Line, alongside a comprehensive range of ADAS and connectivity features.

Context

Automakers are increasingly expanding their electric vehicle portfolios to meet strict global emission standards while phasing out older crossover designs in favour of traditional SUV styling. The use of MEB+ platforms allows legacy carmakers to scale up battery production and integrate advanced driver-assistance systems across multiple vehicle segments.
