Mumbai Police detained actor Imran Khan along with roughly 400 people on Saturday from August Kranti Maidan during a demonstration. The actor took part in the protest alongside his partner Lekha Washington and relative Zayn Marie Khan to demand the exit of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Detention Details

According to shared videos, officers moved the group inside a police van for about two hours without clear reasons before releasing them at a secret spot. Even after letting them go, officers reportedly kept cab drivers from picking them up, while police also filed a formal case at Gamdevi Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita naming themselves as complainants.

Context

August Kranti Maidan remains famous as the historic starting point of the Quit India Movement in 1942. Street demonstrations and police detentions in major Indian cities often follow high-profile political calls by public figures, drawing large crowds and heavy security responses.
