Actors Imran Khan, Lekha Washington, and Zayn Marie Khan were released on Saturday evening after being detained by Mumbai Police during a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan. The group joined a protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged issues in the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. Videos shared online showed police officers pulling the trio into a vehicle and driving them around for roughly two hours. According to Hindustan Times, about 400 people were detained in Mumbai during the event, while more than 4,000 protesters faced detention in Delhi. Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, was also taken into custody while heading to the Mumbai site. Following their release, Lekha Washington posted updates on social media confirming their safety, though she noted that police continued to discourage local cab drivers from picking them up. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police registered a First Information Report at the Gamdevi Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including unlawful assembly and disobedience to an order, with police personnel acting as the complainants.
