Hyundai Motor India has fully revealed the new Bayon mid-size SUV ahead of its price announcement and launch on October 26, 2026. Measuring 4.2 metres in length, the vehicle will slot between the Venue and the Creta in the company's lineup, taking on rivals like the Maruti Victoris according to Autocar India. Bookings are already open for Rs 11,000 at dealerships and through the official website.
Design and Cabin
The Bayon adopts an upright stance featuring Hyundai's latest 'Art of Steel' design language with a sculpted bonnet, slim H-Edge LED DRLs, a split headlamp setup, and substantial black and silver cladding. The side profile reveals geometric alloy wheels, sharp body creases, traditional pull-type door handles, and bridge-type roof rails, while the rear carries a black tailgate panel with spaced-out BAYON lettering and a roof spoiler. Inside, the dual-tone grey-and-black cabin houses a horizontal dashboard with a curved panoramic panel containing two 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instruments, along with a wireless charging pad and physical dials.
Engine and Technology
Under the hood, the SUV comes with a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque, paired with a choice of a six-speed manual or an IVT automatic transmission. According to Autocar India, a CNG version with an underbody tank is also expected later. The Bayon is positioned as an Intelligent Utility Vehicle built on Hyundai's Global K Enhanced Platform to meet five-star Bharat NCAP standards. It features Hyundai's first generative AI voice assistant developed with Perplexity and SoundHound AI, NVIDIA-accelerated connected car technology, over-the-air updates for up to 19 controllers, and Bluelink offering over 70 connected features.
Context
Mid-size SUVs represent one of the fastest-growing and most competitive segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market, prompting manufacturers to continuously introduce new models with advanced technology and connectivity features. This launch follows Hyundai's record-high monthly total sales in September, positioning the brand to capture strong festive season demand. The vehicle's heavy focus on onboard artificial intelligence and regional language support reflects a broader industry push toward software-defined vehicles tailored specifically for Indian consumers.
