Maruti Suzuki's Dzire topped passenger‑vehicle sales in India during the first five months of FY27, moving 1.08 lakh units. ## Sales Performance The sedan edged out the country’s most popular SUVs, with the Tata Punch the nearest rival at 1.03 lakh units, leaving the Dzire ahead by roughly 5,000 cars. Other SUVs the Dzire out‑sold include the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Creta. ## Market Context Nearly three out of every five passenger vehicles sold between April and August FY27 were SUVs, while sedans made up fewer than one in twelve of the total. In that environment, the Dzire’s low price, modest running costs and strong appeal to private owners and fleet buyers helped it stay ahead of the SUV‑heavy market. Its performance stands out because the overall market is dominated by larger, higher‑priced models, yet the compact sedan kept its volume advantage through cost‑focused positioning.
