What Happened

State officials said grain bought in the Kharif season will now be kept in warehouses rather than given to private mills. Vigilance raids at a storage godown in Ramapur uncovered large‑scale diversion of grain by mills, which were allegedly selling the grain and paying the government only in delayed installments.

Reaction

Senior officials from the Civil Supplies Department and the vigilance team noted the irregularities and recommended stopping immediate grain release to mills.

What’s Next

The government plans to store the grain at designated points and release it to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) after verification.

Context

The district has 251 procurement centres for Kharif, set up under I K P (123 centres), P A S C (122 centres) and MEPMA (2 centres). Collector Garim Agrwal chaired a review meeting with officials including Additional Collector Gaddam Nagash, DRDO officer Laxminarayan, District Agriculture Officer Afzal Begam, Cooperative Officer Ramakrishna, District Civil Supplies Officer Buchchibabu and Manager Gopal, urging faster CMR delivery and stricter monitoring.
