Zimbabwe Women finished their innings at 114 for 5 in the match against India Women, setting a target after being asked to bat first in Smriti Mandhana's new captaincy era. Zimbabwe managed 60 runs at the halfway mark but slowed down in the latter half, playing out more than ten overs without scoring.
Early Setbacks
India's run chase hit trouble immediately as Nyasha Gwanzura claimed a dream start with two wickets in her first over. Gwanzura dismissed Indian captain Smriti Mandhana first ball for a soft dismissal caught by Tendai Makusha. She then removed Anushka Sharma with a top edge caught by Kelis Ndhlovu. Michelle Mavunga added further pressure by taking the wicket of Harmanpreet Kaur, leaving Zimbabwe on top during the early stages of the Indian innings.
Context
Cricket matches often feature shifting momentum where early bowling breakthroughs can quickly alter the course of a run chase. International series provide developing teams with key international exposure and learning opportunities on foreign pitches.
