UPDATE - follow-up to 14 killed, 40 injured as truck hits devotees near temple in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered the transfer of Gwalior City Superintendent of Police Ravi Bhadoriya and the suspension of eight police personnel following the temple tragedy.

Investigation

The suspended officers include three town inspectors, a traffic inspector, a head constable, and three constables. The state administration launched a detailed inquiry to find out how the paddy-laden truck entered the prohibited zone despite barricades and police checkpoints.

Action

Police arrested both the truck driver and the owner in the neighboring Dholpur district of Rajasthan. The driver claimed the vehicle suffered brake failure while descending a slope near the Sheetla Mata Mandir.

Context

Administrative accountability following major public tragedies often involves immediate transfers and suspensions of local law enforcement. Such measures aim to address allegations of lax security enforcement and route violations in restricted festival zones.
