UPDATE - follow-up to Marco Rubio arrives in Jamnagar to visit Reliance refinery: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran in Mumbai before traveling to Gujarat to tour Reliance Industries' oil-refining complex.
Jamnagar Tour
Mr. Rubio, accompanied by his wife Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, spent a few hours in Jamnagar before flying back to the United States. Mukesh Ambani led the Ambani family in welcoming the U.S. delegation, joined by Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Anand Piramal, Anant Ambani, Radhika Merchant, Reliance Executive Director P.M.S. Prasad, and U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. The group toured the world's largest single-site oil-refining complex, the Vantara wildlife rescue and conservation centre, and a clean-energy manufacturing hub.
Energy Ties
Ambassador Sergio Gor stated that India's imports of U.S. liquefied petroleum gas surged from below ten percent to sixty-seven percent over the past year, making the United States the largest LPG supplier to India. Mr. Gor also pointed to Reliance's planned investment in a new Texas refinery as a way to boost U.S. energy production and jobs. Mr. Rubio noted that Washington is talking with Reliance about refining more Venezuelan crude as output rises in South America, while the Jamnagar facility's capacity to handle various crude grades aids energy diversification.
Context
This diplomatic visit highlights how energy security, technology, and manufacturing continue to anchor commercial and strategic cooperation between Washington and New Delhi. High-level delegations frequently tour major industrial sites like Jamnagar to explore bilateral trade opportunities and secure supply chains.
