Indian stock markets face a lower opening on Thursday, October 22, as GIFT Nifty indicates a negative start for domestic indices by trading down nearly 46.50 points at 22,682. This follows consecutive losses on Wednesday where the Sensex dropped 143.21 points to close at 73,709.69 and the Nifty 50 fell 77.60 points to 22,811.35. Selling pressure in power, banking, and financial stocks, alongside elevated crude oil prices, drove the recent downturn. Meanwhile, Economic Times - Markets notes that Reliance Industries also received a reaffirmation from ICRA for its non-convertible debenture program valued at Rs 12,000 crore.

Corporate Updates

Numerous major firms draw investor attention on Thursday due to corporate developments and second-quarter earnings. Companies including Swiggy, Adani Energy, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Adani Total Gas, Bluestone Jewellery, Colgate, Alkem Labs, and Indian Hotels release Q2 results today. The Zomato and Blinkit parent company, Eternal, reported a 92.3 percent year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to ₹125 crore. The Tata Group hospitality firm posted a 19.5 percent rise in net profit to ₹380 crore, alongside separate strong metrics showing a 29.3 percent profit increase to ₹262.4 crore and a 38.5 percent revenue jump to ₹3,776.4 crore. Additionally, the Ministry of Defence awarded BEL a ₹770 crore contract for low-level light-weight radar systems for the Indian Army, while another firm handed over a ₹223.55 crore dividend cheque to the Gujarat government.
