French performance group La Voyage de Rézé staged a live show at the State Art Gallery in Madhapur on Wednesday, combining music, storytelling and live illustrations. The four-member ensemble performed a one-hour show that mixed original songs, well-known tracks, rare melodies and global musical styles. As the musicians played, an artist drew sketches on stage, and the images were projected onto a screen to match the music in real time.
Partners and Members
The French Institute in India and the Alliance Française de Hyderabad presented the event. The quartet includes Rézé as guitarist, singer and composer, whose style draws from jazz, African and Brazilian traditions. Soifran handles percussion and vocals with African, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms. Emé creates the live sketches, while Christoo manages video projections, photography and artistic production. Rézé previously spent time hitchhiking through West Africa at age 20, performing in Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Benin, which shaped the group's cross-cultural style.
Context
Cross-cultural art performances like this one bring international artists to Indian cities through cultural partnerships. These collaborative shows let local audiences experience foreign artistic traditions directly. Events of this type aim to connect different cultures through shared creative expressions.
