Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced the formation of a Cabinet sub-committee to examine the Mudiraj community's demand for inclusion in the BC-A category. Speaking in Hyderabad on Thursday during the birth anniversary celebrations of Telangana folk hero Pandaga Sayanna Mudiraj, the Chief Minister stated that the issue will be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting.
Political Support and Representation
Mr. Revanth Reddy urged people to support Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the next general elections, asserting that backward classes can only be empowered if Mr. Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. Highlighting his government's focus on the political advancement of Backward Classes, he recalled appointing Vakiti Srihari Mudiraj as a District Congress Committee president before later inducting him into the Cabinet as a Minister. He also directed Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to discuss an MLC ticket for a Mudiraj representative with TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud.
Welfare Measures and Statues
The Chief Minister announced that statues of Pandaga Sayanna and Doddi Komaraiah will be installed on Tank Bund in Hyderabad to honor their resistance to oppression. He detailed various welfare programs implemented by his administration, including the distribution of fine-quality rice to 3.48 crore people through the public distribution system and the construction of Indiramma houses across villages. He noted that past welfare initiatives started by former Chief Ministers N.T. Rama Rao, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and K. Chandrashekar Rao have been continued by his government.
Context
Category reclassifications for reservations and welfare benefits often require detailed demographic data and formal committee reviews before state governments can pass policy changes. Memorials and statues of regional historical figures are frequently used by leaders in India to honor local community icons and build political connections with specific voter bases.
