Aasif Khan, the Panchayat actor now on Bigg Boss 20, suffered a severe heart attack last year and was in hospital for 21 days. His wife Zeba Khan later disclosed the true cause, saying he had a massive blockage in his main coronary artery, required ICU care and a stent, and was only 34 at the time. Khan had initially told the public the admission was for acid reflux, later clarified as gastro‑oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), to avoid jeopardising future film roles. Zeba posted on Instagram images of her husband on the hospital bed, medical reports and a lengthy note explaining why she felt compelled to reveal the facts. She recounted hearing doctors say the artery was fully blocked and described the emotional strain of holding a crying husband fearing loss of his career. Khan had lost his father to a heart attack during his childhood, a loss she said resurfaced with this incident. Following the revelation, the couple faced intense online backlash, including death threats against Khan and rape threats against the family, which Zeba condemned as cruelty disguised as entertainment. The tension on the show heightened when fellow contestant Qazi Touqeer joked about a "heart attack" during a nomination task; Khan interpreted it as a personal attack, leading to a heated exchange that required an apology from Touqeer. After discharge in July 2025, Khan told the Times of India that he was diagnosed with GERD, not a heart attack, and that he felt fine. He also shared an emotional Instagram story on July 16 urging people to value life. ## Context The incident highlights how health scares can be concealed in the Indian film industry due to fear of losing work, and how reality‑TV platforms can amplify personal conflicts into public harassment.
