Rain and strong winds hit Kolkata on Tuesday morning as a low-pressure area over the north Andaman Sea gathers strength. Weather expert Rabindra Goenka shared updates on the brewing system, which lies 650 kilometres southwest of Kolkata and 300 kilometres from Visakhapatnam. The system is moving towards north Andhra Pradesh and could turn into a deep depression within 12 to 16 hours over the Bay of Bengal, and possibly a cyclone within 24 hours. If a cyclone forms, it is expected to cross the coast between north Andhra Pradesh and Gopalpur in Odisha.

Fishermen and people whose work depends on the sea must keep a close watch on the weather.
