Actor Ayesha Khan has strongly condemned a viral video from Bihar's Jamui district showing two minors being harassed and confronted by a group of people. Taking to Instagram Stories, Khan expressed disgust at the incident and criticized attempts at moral policing, calling the behaviour pathetic and terrifying.
The Incident And Arrests
The incident occurred on September 19 when two Class 10 friends left coaching classes in Jamui town on a motorbike to visit a nearby spot near Madwa hillock on the Jamui-Lakhisarai road to take photographs. Around 7 pm, while returning, a group of local youths stopped them under the guise of moral policing. Some members of the group made vulgar comments, beat the boy, and sexually assaulted the girl while the victims pleaded for help. The attackers filmed the ordeal on a mobile phone and threatened to upload the video online if the victims reported it. The main accused, identified as Nandan Yadav, was shot in the leg by police. Yadav and another person have been arrested, following the earlier arrest of three individuals by a special investigation team.
Political Reactions
The viral footage sparked social media outrage, prompting opposition leaders to react strongly by criticizing the ruling BJP and questioning the state's law and order. Meanwhile, BJP Jamui MLA Shreyasi Singh reportedly stated that while moral policing could potentially be carried out in a more decent and elegant fashion, the mistreatment and mishandling of the boy and girl was completely intolerable.
