Sales charts in India consistently show popular models leading the market, but a look at July and August data reveals five well-engineered cars that are struggling for attention due to changing trends, bad positioning, or limited dealer networks.
Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia is priced between Rs. 11.26 lakh and Rs. 21.65 lakh on-road in Mumbai and offers a driver-focused experience with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. However, sales dropped from 993 units in July to 897 units in August. Buyers are currently choosing hatchbacks and compact SUVs like the Maruti Dzire for running costs, while Skoda's high maintenance costs also contribute to lower sales.
Hyundai Verna
Hyundai faces similar struggles with the Verna sedan, which received a mid-cycle update in 2026. Priced between Rs. 13.16 lakh and Rs. 21.92 lakh in Mumbai, it offers good space and a refined engine, but costs more than Hyundai's own best-selling Creta SUV, keeping buyers away.
Honda City
The Honda City, a dominant presence in India for over 20 years, is also seeing declining sales despite an update from the Japanese automaker. While buyers once loved its simplicity and VTEC engine, preferences have shifted toward turbo-petrol units.
Citroen C3 Aircross
Citroen's C3 Aircross managed just 57 unit sales in August, up slightly from 45 in July. Despite great ride quality over broken roads and a practical cabin, the car suffers from Citroen's tiny dealer network, which leaves many buyers unaware it exists.
Jeep Compass
Finally, the Jeep Compass remains a capable SUV with a top-notch build and 4x4 hardware, but it struggles with a limited sales network, high maintenance, and the loss of its petrol engine option, leaving it with just 114 sales in August.
