UPDATE - follow-up to Bentley Torcal revealed ahead of mid-2027 India launch: Bentley has detailed the Torcal, its first-ever electric vehicle, ahead of its scheduled arrival in India in the second half of 2027. The fourth model line from the luxury brand will slot in below the Bentayga and is priced around Rs 4.5 crore, ex-showroom. The higher price compared to the Bentayga stems from the fact that EVs do not receive the same customs-duty benefit under the new UK-India FTA.

Design and Dimensions

Designed by Robin Page's team at Crewe, the Torcal is named after the El Torcal de Antequera limestone landscape in southern Spain and is the first Bentley to wear the brand's redesigned emblem. It sits 50mm lower and 120mm shorter than a standard-wheelbase Bentayga, with a length of about five metres and a wheelbase just over three metres. The front features an illuminated grille with crystal-effect elements behind clear polycarbonate, while the rear boasts slim tail-lamps linked by a U-shaped motif. The car rides on 21-inch wheels as standard, though the review car featured 22-inch rims. Practical elements include a 90-litre frunk, a 460-litre boot containing a puncture repair kit instead of a spare wheel, and powered, radar-controlled doors.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the cabin features a curved OLED centre screen that flows into the centre console, accompanied by physical knurled switches. A facial-recognition camera identifies the driver to load seat, steering, and ADAS settings, while an augmented-reality head-up display projects navigation details. Four Experience Modes—Sport, Bentley, Comfort, and Refresh—alter the lighting, sound, climate, and dynamics. Sound engineering replaces a V8 engine with a 'Dynamic Symphony' recorded from real musicians playing drums, viola, and bass guitar, alongside unique audio touches like an indicator tick recorded from a workshop hammer striking leather. Materials include wood veneers, 15 leather shades, and the world's first 100 percent Merino wool automotive fabric developed with Fox Brothers. The rear bench offers good under-thigh support, physical climate controls, heated and cooled seats, three USB-C ports including a 100W laptop charger, and power-folding capabilities.

Performance and Charging

Built on the PPE platform shared with Porsche's Cayenne Electric, the Torcal uses two permanent-magnet motors powered by a 113kWh, 800V battery that carries a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty. The setup generates 888hp and 1,350Nm of torque, enabling the 2.7-tonne SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 2.9 seconds. Claimed WLTP range is 600km. A 400kW charger allows a 10 to 80 percent top-up in 16 minutes, though India currently lacks such high-speed chargers. The chassis includes fully active suspension, five degrees of rear-wheel steer giving an 11.1m turning circle, optional carbon-ceramic brakes with 440mm front discs, and an ADAS suite utilizing 25 radars, sensors, and cameras.
