Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's spy comedy Udta Teer has opened to a modest Rs 4.10 crore net at the Indian box office on its first day. The film ran across 6,265 shows and brought in Rs 4.83 crore in gross collections. While the number is not a disaster for a mid-budget Hindi film, it falls short of Ayushmann's previous releases.

Box Office Comparison

The opening is about half of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, the sequel to the 2019 hit Pati Patni Aur Woh, which also starred Ayushmann and Sara alongside Rakul Preet Singh and Wamiqa Gabbi. That film opened at Rs 9.10 crore net in India. Before that, Ayushmann starred in Thamma, a horror comedy produced by Dinesh Vijan that released during Diwali. Thamma opened at Rs 24 crore across 14,298 shows, which is nearly six times the opening day collection of Udta Teer. However, comparing the two is somewhat unfair because Thamma had the Diwali festival advantage and belonged to an established horror comedy universe that includes Stree, Bhediya and Munjya. Despite a sharp decline after the festive rush, Thamma earned a total of Rs 187.59 crore at the box office.

Cast And Crew Details

Udta Teer marks the second time Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan have worked together, following Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, though Udta Teer was actually shot first and released later. The film is the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik. It features an ensemble cast led by the two lead actors, with a supporting cast that includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe. Looking ahead, Ayushmann has another film releasing next month titled Yeh Prem Mol Liya, directed by Sooraj Barjatya and starring Sharwari.

Context

Opening day box office collections for mid-budget Hindi films often set the tone for their theatrical run, especially when they compete against major festive releases or established franchise universes. Spy comedies and genre films rely heavily on word-of-mouth feedback to build momentum over their first weekend in cinemas. Industry tracking helps map how these opening figures compare against an actor's past box office performance.
