Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma states that police capturing the people who carried out the recent shooting targeting actor Tiger Shroff does not weaken the larger criminal network behind them. In multiple social media posts, Varma compared the gunmen to everyday construction workers who simply follow plans while the main decision-makers stay far away from the ground.
The Incident and Injuries
On October 18, three attackers fired weapons at a car carrying Tiger Shroff within the Juhu neighbourhood of Mumbai. The actor managed to escape without suffering gunshot wounds, though he did sustain minor scrapes. His driver suffered a bullet injury to his hand during the incident. An innocent bystander named Umesh Chauhan also got hit by a bullet, which caused damage to his liver. Doctors operated on Chauhan at KEM Hospital on October 21 to take the bullet out, and he was later listed as stable under medical observation.
Views on Criminal Networks
Varma argued that the person who pulls the trigger acts as the most easily replaceable and cheapest part of a criminal syndicate. He likened the arrangement to military forces where generals issue instructions while soldiers face the actual danger on the battlefield. Because crime bosses keep themselves safe from direct risk, Varma believes that catching ordinary gunmen amounts to very little for law enforcement and causes no real loss to the underworld syndicate. He tagged casting director Mukesh Chhabra in one post to remark that the arrested suspects looked so ordinary that they would not even get cast as minor gang members in a motion picture. Varma is well-known for directing multiple crime dramas centered around the underworld, including Satya and Company.
Context
High-profile security incidents involving prominent film personalities often spark intense debate about organized crime and personal safety within the entertainment industry. Filmmakers who have spent decades studying or depicting the criminal underworld frequently offer distinct perspectives on how syndicated violence operates behind the scenes.
