UPDATE - follow-up to World Car Awards to acquire Women's Worldwide Car of the Year program: The World Car Awards has officially agreed to acquire the Women's World Car of the Year program. Moving forward, the non-profit group that runs the World Car Awards will also manage WWCOTY. Under the new agreement, WWCOTY will operate through a dedicated steering committee as an adjunct to the World Car Awards. The organizers will work alongside both current and former WWCOTY jurors to prepare the 2027 edition using the existing systems of the World Car Awards. Beth Rhind, who serves as the co-founder and executive vice-president of the World Car Awards, stated that the organization values the hard work done by the WWCOTY team and aims to build a strong program that gives visibility to women in the automotive world. Further details about the 2027 edition, including the jury panel, award categories, and timeline, will be released at a later date. The World Car Awards started in 2004 and currently includes 98 automotive journalists, such as Autocar India Editor-in-Chief Hormazd Sorabjee, with the BMW iX3 winning the 2026 title. Meanwhile, WWCOTY was founded in 2009 and features 86 women jurors, including Autocar India team members Renuka Kirpalani and Mugdha Mishra, with the Nissan Leaf taking the overall win for 2026.
