Spy Comedy Udta Teer Sees Big Jump on First Saturday at Box Office

Box Office Numbers

Aakash Kaushik's spy comedy Udta Teer earned Rs 13.53 crore gross and Rs 11.35 crore net at the domestic box office after two days. The film also collected Rs 16.28 crore worldwide. On its first Saturday, the movie made Rs 7.25 crore from 6,164 screens. This marks a 76.8 percent increase from its opening day earnings of Rs 4.10 crore from 6,265 screens.

Opening Performance

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, the film was backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment. The movie had a low advance booking before release. It sold 41,746 tickets to earn Rs 1.12 crore gross, and Rs 2.59 crore including block booking. Because it relied on spot bookings on Friday, it secured only the eighth spot on the list of Ayushmann's highest opening-day grossers in India. It ranked above Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and Doctor G. However, it still became the biggest opening release among several other films that hit theaters on the same Friday.

Trade Reactions

Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported a strong jump in collections on Saturday. He noted that major multiplexes in urban centers recorded strong occupancies, with national chains doubling their business. Several cities outside Mumbai, including Bengaluru, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai, also reported solid footfalls.

Context

Movie makers often adjust their release dates to avoid competing with other major films at the box office. Udta Teer was originally scheduled for October 9, but the makers delayed it due to the box office run of Drishyam 3.
