Bad Weather Forces Ed Sheeran to Cancel Massachusetts Shows During Tough Week

Weather Cancellation

Heavy rain and strong winds forecast across the Boston region forced the total cancellation of Ed Sheeran's upcoming performances in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Promoter Messina Touring announced that the dates previously set for September 25 and 26 at Gillette Stadium could no longer proceed, putting the security of ticket holders and crew members first.

Tour Fallout

This shutdown follows intense public debate after rapper Macklemore was taken off the American tour lineup following pro-Palestinian comments. Stadium owner Robert Kraft stated the venue would avoid hosting hate speech due to those remarks. Sheeran subsequently spoke about being caught between differing views on free expression during a recent Philadelphia performance.

Emotional Address

During that Philadelphia gig, an emotional Sheeran mentioned that acquaintances were distancing themselves during a difficult week. He noted that his opening acts and backing band stepped away to show support for Macklemore, which led to him dismantling the smaller B-stage over security worries. Despite these challenges, he described the night as his finest concert ever and told the crowd that the venue offered hope amidst a frightening climate.
