Taylor Swift is set to become the most awarded artist in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. She will receive the first ever Artist Director Honors, pushing her past her current tie of thirty wins with Beyoncé. Eminem holds the record for male artists with fifteen. Swift also directs and releases the video for her latest single during the event, featuring actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson. This track marks her initial release following her July wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. Madonna tops all nominees with eleven nods across categories like video, artist, and song of the year, marking nominations across every decade of her career. Swift follows closely with nine nominations, while Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter secure seven each. Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress, and Zara Larsson pull in five. LISA earns four, while Shakira, Tate McRae, GENER8ION, and Yung Lean each receive three. Madonna also opens the broadcast with her first VMA performance in twenty-three years. Snoop Dogg hosts the two-hour ceremony, which broadcasts live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on CBS, MTV, and Paramount Plus. This marks the first time since 2017 that the show leaves New York and New Jersey. Tribute performances include Kacey Musgraves honoring the late Dolly Parton, and Raye, Sombr, and Teddy Swims remembering George Michael a decade after his passing. Raye also performs a separate solo set, alongside acts like Lisa, Sienna Spiro, and GENER8ION with Yung Lean.
