Market Rebound

The Nifty broke a four-session losing streak on Monday by gaining 153 points to close at 22,753 after a sharp recovery from an early sell-off. The index opened 76 points lower and dropped to an intraday low of 22,387 in the first 30 minutes, before a rebound lifted it by nearly 300 points. Profit-taking pared gains before renewed buying in the second half helped the index recover more than 200 points from its mid-session low. The Economic Times reported that domestic institutional investors were net buyers while foreign portfolio investors net sold shares amidst broader market rallies.

Sector Performance

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, JSW Steel and BSE led the top Nifty gainers, while Shriram Finance, Tata Consumer Products and Bajaj Finance were among the major laggards. Most sectoral indices finished in positive territory, led by Nifty Metal, Cement, Pharma and Healthcare, while Nifty Media and Consumer Durables bucked the trend. The broader market also bounced back from last week's drop, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices rising 1.2% and 1.4% respectively. The index also reclaimed its 20-day moving average on the daily chart, pointing to improving near-term momentum according to Vatsal Bhuva of LKP Securities.

Expert Views and Levels

Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities noted that the short-term trend turned mildly positive, stating that a move above 22,800 to 22,850 could confirm a short-term reversal. Hitesh Rathi of Angel One placed immediate support at 22,500 to 22,380, with stronger support at 22,200 to 22,100, and resistance at 23,000 to 23,100. Nandish Shah of HDFC Securities added that the Nifty held above Friday's low of 22,372 and could target 23,175 if it sustains above 22,800, though a break below 22,372 would expose it to lower support zones.

Global and Economic Factors

Market direction hinges on global cues, central-bank decisions and corporate earnings. Brent crude traded around $115 a barrel, down from a six-month high of $117, though continued attacks on Saudi Arabia kept supply disruption worries high. Investors are tracking policy decisions from the US Federal Reserve on October 28, the European Central Bank on October 29 and the Bank of Japan on October 30. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee fell 25 paise to close at 95.19 against the US dollar for its third straight decline, pressured by weaker Asian currencies and rising domestic bond yields.

Context

Stock markets often react strongly to global crude oil prices and central bank interest rate decisions because these factors directly influence foreign capital flows and corporate borrowing costs. Major economic policy announcements from countries like the United States frequently trigger immediate currency fluctuations and shifting investor risk appetites across emerging markets like India.
